Ericeira and Mafra

Ericeira and Mafra

To product

Did you know that Ericeira was just recently considered one of the coolest towns in Europe? Visit this beautiful village and get to know Mafra as well.

Besides being “cool”, and also the place chosen by King Manuel II of Portugal to go into exile, from Praia dos Pescadores, after the outbreak of the 5 October 1910 revolution (did you know that?) there is a lot of things you need to know about this most beautiful but still not very touristic heavenly spot in Portugal.

Ericeira is traditionally a fishing village on the western coast of Portugal, about 35 kilometers (22 miles) northwest of Lisbon, in the municipality of Mafra, loved by locals and surfers, and becoming each time more a touristic destination.

Taking this tour with Lisbonhost, will allow you to fully explore the potential of Ericeira. We make sure to take you to the best beaches (out of more than 11 that exist), explore the most traditional spots, restaurants, pastries, monuments and really get to feel the village from the side of the locals, rather than just make a superficial touristic approach.

This day trip also includes a visit to Mafra, where you can visit the famous National Palace of Mafra, built in baroque style and the source of inspiration for our Nobel prize winner – José Saramago to write his novel Baltasar and Blimunda (Memorial do Convento).

Besides visiting the sumptuous Palace, we will make sure you will try the unique Pão de Mafra (bread) visit the typical village of José Franco and Tapada de Mafra (National Game Park).

The typical village of José Franco shows the uses and customs of the people of the country, giving an overview on the way they used to work and live.

Tapada de Mafra (National Game Park) appeared in the reign of Dom João V (1747), “The Magnanimous”, for recreation of the royal court, especially for hunting. The National Game Park is an 819 hectare area, completely enclosed by the original wall, 21 km long. The forest covers most of the ground, home to free roaming herds of deer, wild boar, and several other species of wildlife.
